Round 1 of British Cycling Elite Men Circuit Race Series

Spectators can look forward to an evening of entertainment and high drama as some of the country’s top cyclists compete around the streets of Brighouse.

The racing starts at 19.00 with the Youth A & B category race for Under 14 & Under 16 boys and girls. We hope you will cheer along these future stars as they battle it out around town centre for 30 mins.

This is followed at 19.35 by the senior race for 3/4/W/J category riders. This race is scheduled for 45 mins.

The climax of the evening is round 1 of British Cycling’s 2012 National Elite Men’s Circuit Race Series.

We are proud to be able bring you this event after a 2 year absence from the calendar. The race duration is 60 mins.

There’s a top class field of professional riders from 9 of the UK’s major teams. We welcome Ian Wilkinson, Scott Thwaites and

Russell Downing from Endura. Russell was 2nd here in 2009 and Scott has been almost unbeatable in the 2012 Tour Series. However we doubt they will get it all their own way, as we have full squads from Corley Cycles/Blue; Team Raleigh-GAC; Cycle Premier-Kovert, Node4 Giodana; Wheelbase.co.uk/MGD; Sportscover; Team Hope Factory Racing & Team IG Sigma Sports.

We are delighted to have Carl Lawrenson providing commentary for the event. Carl has been providing the insight to this seasons Halfords Tour Series on ITV4.

The circuit starts along King Street, turns right down Lawson Road, then cuts the wrong side of the island at the bottom of Huddersfield Road and enters Bethel Street. Continuing on Bethel Street towards Thornton Square roundabout before proceeding up Briggate before turning right back into Commercial Street and along to the junction with Bradford Road/King Street to complete one circuit outside after the offices of our main sponsors Websters Insurance Brokers.

The roads around the circuit will be closed by barriers along the busiest parts of the circuit to protect both the riders and the public. To allow preparation before the event and clearing up afterwards these roads will be closed from 18.20 to 22.00 hours.

At the end of the Elite race at approximately 21.30 the prize presentation ceremony for all races will take place at the podium near the finish line. Please stay around to give the riders your appreciation as the winners pop the champagne!
